I have an HDTV capable TV monitor and will someday want to view HDTV broadcasts over satellite, over the air, or cable. The HDTV tuners are reasonably priced and I've seen a couple that combine over the air HDTV inside the satellite receiver.1)Which satellite service is providing more HDTV content.. DishNetworks or DirecTV?
2)If I sign up for "local network channels" via a satellite service, will I be able to receive HDTV from those local channels provided they are broadcasting in HDTV? Or... will I need a tuner to receive off the air HDTV directly from a transmitting tower nearby?
3)When will AT&T Broadband (now Comcast) provide HDTV over cable in the Denver area?
I read a post a while back that mentioned waiting for a new generation of HDTV tuners to appear. That post is a bit dated now. I'm wondering if there are any new developments worth waiting for in a simple HDTV tuner box? Thanks!

Hello,I can't answer your questions directly, but I think you'll be able to answer them all if you spend some time at avsforum.com. I know I've learned a lot there. Also, the signal to noise ratio seems pretty good at avsforum (IMHO). Good luck!
I'll check out the avsforum. ...Abe
Until this past Friday, I was using a Samsung SIR-150 which is an older model over-the-air HDTV tuner. My experience with it indicated that it was very, very picky about the signal and would had difficulty locking onto a signal much of the time.Since Friday, my local cable company Comcast installed an over the cable HDTV tuner. This now gives me a few more channels plus HBO-HD..........
In the March/April of The Perfect Vision magazine does a run down of the latest set top HDTV set top boxes.
Thanks. I'll have to check with Comcast locally to see if we have HDTV over cable. They just bought AT&T Broadband so I'm not sure if HDTV is a priority for them while they are still trying to digest the AT&T acquisition.I did find some very useful information at the avsforum.com which led me to some additional links. I was curious about OTA HDTV status in the Denver market. We are so behind the rest of the nation but a number local stations have temporary low-power transmitters up on high rise buildings downtown. A consortium of local stations was in a heated battle with Jefferson County to place an HDTV tower up on Lookout Mountain which would serve the entire Denver metro area. This issue appears to have been resolved so we will soon have strong HDTV signals coming from this mountain top (which is in direct line of sight view from my backyard).
