Video Asylum

Actually she's a track / field hockey / tennis / rollerhockey mom. My wife's B-day coming up, and we need a new camcorder in the $600 to $800 range, to replace the old 8mm, for the kid's sports.

Are there any decent digital models out there in this price range, or should we go with 8mm again? Requirements: simple, light, with easy to see LCD screen.
