I'd be interested in hearing opinions of others on how these two preamp/processors compare in sound quality. I'm not concerned with the different dacs, bit rates, or additional formats of the Anthem like Dolby PLII. Just share how these two sound to you with music and movies.
Thanks, Roger

Roger,Very hard to compare two units with such vastly different decoding capabilities.
I can appreciate your not wanting to get caught up in bits and bytes and DAC specs, but decode modes are a different animal entirely. You simply MUST understand the different modes, what they aim to do and how effectively they put the software into the air. DPLII, for example, (along with its DTS equivalent) is widely used on stereo video sources to great effect. The 6.1/7.1 HT modes can be truly amazing given proper source material. DTS-ES and DD-EX are therefore a necessity for some folk - maybe you, maybe not.
"How do they sound" without reference to decoding capabilities cannot be answered. Any true comparison would have to center on common capabilities in which case you would be shortchanging the Anthem and its extensive set of decodes. Hope this helps.
I have an Outlaw 950 now, so I've had a taste of
the new formats and modes. I want 5.1 for movies
and GREAT 2 channel from my CD transport. I'm not that impressed by PLII, EXXXXXXXs, etc.. I am more interested in how well the Anthem compares to the Ovation Plus as a DAC/preamp for 2 channel music, though good movie performance is needed too.
Now that's a bit clearer than your original message. As you have no doubt read ad nauseum, "good" HT and "GREAT" 2-channel don't play well together. Keep the 950 for the flicks and go with a separate 2-channel setup for tunes.
