In Reply to: Help me find a really cheap DVD changer that I can live with... posted by nobody on May 22, 2003 at 10:37:04:
I know you want to keep things "simple" but I think you would be better off with a CD-only player/changer. Your dollar will go a lot farther and you don't have to give up the performance of your H/K. Any of those cheapo DVD players (especially a changer) are not going to have as good an audio section as your H/K. Come on, I know you can make room for another component!BTW, I can sympathize with your situation, I also have the DVD 5. My solution: I picked up a used H/K CDR 30 on Ebay for $250 and now I have all the capability I need (or at least until I want DVD-A).
Follow Ups:
Problem is lack of inputs as well. But, I could probably just run my VCR audio through the TV to save on one come to think of it. Would be nice to be able to record from analog too.Really have mixed feelings about adding a component though, and still not having random mode. I'd probably just stick with plugging in the portable through a processor loop if I was gonna just add a CD player.
DVD 5 really is a mixed bag. I do like the CD performance and the video is fine. It's just so close to what I want but misses out on some relatively simple things that it can drive me nuts.
I hear ya. The problem is it is an old unit (in DVD player terms). An expensive, old unit! Does it have to be a changer? There is always the H/K DVD 25 ($250).How are you out of inputs? What kind of receiver are you using?
No receiver, adcom preamp gtp-450.Got a VCR, turntable, cable box, and DVD player, which uses 'em all up. Like I said, there is a processsor loop where I've been hooking up a portable to listen to CD-Rs, but you can't access that input from the remote, which is pretty much of a pain, and why I don't like to use it any more than I have to.
Ya know, I may just wait this out until I have more funds to spend. I appreciate all your help, but yup gotta have a changer, no way the wife's gonna be cool if I buy a replacement that isn't a changer. This time it has to have random play. She was real disappointed when we went from a CD player that did this to a DVD player that didn't.
