The Denon DVD-2900 is out at about $999 msrp while the Marantz DV8400 is almost twice the price. These are universal DVD players that support DVD-V, DVD-A, SACD, CD, and some other formats (MP3, CD-R, CD-RW, etc).
The Marantz DV8300 which is the predecessor to the new DV8400 received a rotten review (in TAS) for it's poor audio performance but Marantz claims that it's latest DV8400 has improvements in the audio section.
Has anyone heard either of these units? Are there any reviews available on the Denon DVD-2900 and the new Marantz DV8400? Thanks!

I have the 8300 on loan in a fairly high-end Linn home cinema system. I think the audio in all forms is actually very good and I can't see why it should have got a bad review. There was quite a good review on hifichoice.co.uk I think. They recommended keeping your good existing CD player but otherwise it got a very good review. I personally think on brief acquaintance that the CD audio is good too. (I compare alongside a Linn Ikemi.)
