Hey BigEd!
There are a lot of people out there extolling their beliefs about why a good two channel system sounds better than listening to stereo from a multi channel AV rig (hell, I'm one of them). Please don't let our rambling make you think that you can't have great stereo from an AV set up. There are millions of people out there that thuroughly enjoy music from their AV set up. Hell, they even use digital processing and all of their speakers for CDs. Many of these millions of people I'm referring to only had a boom box until they got their home theater. Think about it, without their home theater they may have never been able to sit in their living room and listen to good stereo. My stereo system is in the same room as my home theater. It's a tube system and uses separate speakers. I like to fiddle with a soldering iron and tweak my tube gear so some of the time when my amps are on the bench I plug my stereo speakers into my AV rig. Yep, I enjoy that too. Hell, I even engage some of the surround modes once in a while (GASP!). My AV rig is a Yamaha 2095. Once again, you CAN get good stereo from a home theater set up. What's really important is what sounds good to you.
Thanks for letting me ramble. Let the flames begin, I'm dressed for it. :-)
Follow Ups:
I'm with you on this. In my younger days I experimented with one of the first consumer digital rear channel ambience systems (made by company called Audiopulse, anyone remember it?) that hit the market & also, at a different time, worked out my own version of a passive difference channel ambience generation circuit with my all-tube stereo. I must say, that in both cases, after the novelty wore off, the artifacts, detail masking and phase discrepancies that both processing techniques added to the sound stage became increasingly annoying to the point where, after a few weeks, I had no regrets in permanently removing the ambient processing system (This is back when I was using four Chartwell LS3/5 A's for both front channel and ambient speakers). For movies and broadcast AV material where one seldom becomes as familiar with the sonic nuances, and processing and electronic distortions of all types are typically much greater than for any decent two channel stereo IAC, this acclimization and perception issue doesn't have nearly the chance to take hold.
I had good stereo for over 20 years, last setup McIntosh + KEF 104.2, and now enjoy music a lot more through my AV, "even use digital processing and all of my speakers for CDs"...

Antonio,
Just took a look at your system on ths site and then went to your personal site. I'm jealous. What a great room. Your personal life appears to be in good order too.
Just curious, have you ever tried an additional subwoofer at the rear of the room?
Enjoy,
Bob
Thanks Bob,I donīt feel the need for an aditional subwoofer, the room is not that big, and I feel I have more than enough bass, and good bass too... :)
