I'm sure this has come up before so can someone direct me to a link here that can provide information about recording my VHS tapes onto DVD? or perhaps just start me on the right track with some brief info here?I don't have a DVD burner for my computer and don't really want one. i'd like to stick to connections with a vhs to dvd home recorder. i bought a machine a few months back (philips?) that had a dvd recorder and a VHS deck all in one unit but returned it because getting the volume correct was too difficult and there were other problems with the unit as well.
any suggestions or directions to appropriate links very appreciated.

Presently I'm using a Philips DVDR985 recorder along with a Sima Copymaster unit and JVC S-VHS Vcr (model# HR-S3911U). The S-video output from the VCR (this JVC unit can output an S-video signal from regular non-S-video tapes) is run into the Sima unit (it has both s-video and composite ins and outs) from there to either of the 2 S-video ins on the Philips recorder.
I purchased the Philips DVDR-985 as an open box at Best Buy $300. It had just been serviced with their lastest firmware upgrade. This paricular model had firmware problems early on,but Philips seems to have
fixed that now. Unit works like a charm. The Sima Copymaster is a small box that stabilizes pictures for copying and also defeats Macrovision copyright
protection, it also can be had from Best Buy for $50. Basically you'll just need a DVD recorder and a copymaster unit.
There are several local video production service companies that transfer VHS to DVD, I found many of them in the local yellow pages, and had a few old VHS tapes transferred to DVD. It cost $20 per tape though.
