So, I am finally thinking I need to break down and get a tv and DVD player. I haven't had a tv for over a year now, and frankly I don't miss it. BUT, I do love movies, and would like to be able to watch a DVD now and again. So, what do you guys think of this 27"? It seems like a good value, I don't want to spend more than $300 on the thing. I'll be sitting 8-9 feet from it. Thanks for any opinions.
Follow Ups:
I'd tend to agree with Dalencroft. I own a 29" 4:3 TV, & when I look at movies in widescreen, especially the more extreme examples like Lord Of The Rings, I loose more than 50% of the screen! & I sit about 6-7 feet away. I know that one can buy DVD's adapted for 4:3 TV, but I wouldn't recommend them - you loose to much that way, movie wise. Isn't there any affordable, smaller 16:9 TV's on the market? That would be a better choise if your main priority is watching movies, IMO.
The cheapest 16:9 I have found is still almost $400 at Sam's for some brand called AKAI. People have actually had decent things to say about this set and it does offer a nice picture. I would prefer the 16:9, and for only another $100....how many times have I said that before? :)
It's like drinking Two-buck Chuck with your bacon-wrapped filet mignon. Just bite the bullet and spend the extra hundred bucks.
I'd go at least 32". On a 27" screen, a 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 movie will look VERY small. In my old house, in which my tiny "home theater" room was just 10' x 10', I upgraded from a 25" to a 32" screen and it made a huge difference ...
