roblem I had. No sound. Well if you turned up the volume on the TV all the way up - wispher sound.Found this post online. Worked for me like a charm. Just take out C928. No skill required just wiggle it until it pops out. It's hard to pick out C928 but it is right next to 929.
Here's the actual post:

Toshiba DVD Various Models
No or low sound and possible display faulty
Toshiba mod is to remove C928 not replace it, check and change C927 and C929 if faulty

I had this problem with the SD1700 also. I tried removing C928, no luck. Then I replaced C928 and C927 with 100uF 25V caps, no luck. Finally, I replaced C929 with a 100uF 25V cap and bingo, it worked. So it seems C929 also causes the no audio problem.
Worked great for me too.... thanks a lot!!!!
This fix works
I was ready to toss the unit. But the Fix worked like a charm. Does Toshiba know about this problem?
