I was lucky enough to have a power surge go through my house and blow out my old tv. It was a Mitsubishi 55" that was about 5 years old. The insurance company told me they will pay up to 3 grand. Looking at what's out there, I need some help. What are the current recommendations for this price range? Some info about my system. I have a parasound 120 X 5 amp, hooked into a Rotel surround processor. The room is about 16 by 18, and the 55" was just about right in size. I watch about 50% movies, with 25% tv and 25% sports on it.
Can anyone give some recommendations?
Thanks in advanced.

If you are interested in the Pioneer Elite RPTVs, they are now offering rebates, good until Sept. Supposedly have the best stretch modes for SD playback, 2 DVI inputs, and the outside finish is gorgeous. I just got the 730.

The new Hitachis are very nice-check out the 51S500 (51") and 57S500 (57"). Both have Hitachi's best CRT's-I've had last year's model (51SWX20B) since November and am totally pleased. Stereophile Guide to Home Theater stated the PQ of the Hitachi is comparable to the Pioneer Elite. The 51" can be had for around $2200 if you shop around, the 57" for around $2600.If you want to go bleeding edge, personally, I'd look at the new DLP (digital light processing) sets. I think they have better contrast and blacks than plasmas, and cost a heck of lot less, too. You can get a 50" Samsung DLP set for around $3000.
Check out the attached link for everything video-lots of knowledgable folks and good info here. The "tweak" stuff I've gotten there has been invaluable.

No sorry.
The 43" Samsung HLN437W is arond $3200.00. I have one on order.
The 50" is closer to $4000.00.
After going to 5 stores to view different CRT, Plasma, LCD, DLP's
the DLP's are the best bang for the dollar. Besides having about the best picture.

You might have to kick in another grand to get a 50", but why not?People in the Home Theater Forum seem to prefer Panasonic models. Personally, I've seen a 42" Sony model playing a shot-on-digital video whose picture was incredibly lifelike.
