#1 What's the magic number in $?#2 What's your current display?
#3 How did you make it out of Best Buy alive without them shoving DLP (especially the Samsungs) down your throat?

FunFax4U
The entire first season of SpongeBob is coming to DVD shortly -- list is $49. I'm sure it can be had for less if you look around.
There are remotes with "macro" capability that can fire-up the entire system or just parts of it -- with the touch of just one button.
I'm getting a plasma soon. I'm also planning on moving (by early next summer). I thought about a 42" model, but I think it's going to be a 50" model instead, due to room considerations. It will go in the den at the current house, but when we move, it will go in the living room.
One day I was in the shower, getting ready for work. My wife was in the office on this here POS Windows-virus infected Compaq computer. My (then) 18 month old son decided to go into the living room. He turned on the receiver, surround processor and DVD player. He removed his and my favorite DVD from the shelf -- Britney. He's been a fan since he was 14 months old: I've been a fan since the day she turned 17. He then loaded the DVD into the player. Although he didn't know how to navigate the DVD, he did manage to crank up the volume on the receiver to "11". The beginning of the DVD starts off with the "I'm a Slave for You" music intro automatically. Needless to say, I was treated to pounding Britney Spears music in the shower. Kids do the darndest things, don't they?
Mind you, I'd rather have been just pounding Britney Spears in the shower, but...
Follow Ups:
#1: Not so far past six grand that it starts to look like seven.#2: 32" Sony Trinitron, Heavy bugger, too.
#3: Easy. They're pretty dumb, and I suspect the matching polo shirts make them dumber, so I just held something shiny off to one side to distract the poor guy and made for the door.
# Everything else: If you want some scary "life with kids" stories, try owning a turntable! I want an "integrated" display (tuner and speakers) because, not only is it easier for the kids and elderly grandparents (not to mention easier on the "good" loudspeakers, per your story), but because I feel it's a bit foolish tp boot-up a mega-watt surround amp to watch the news...or even the History Channel.
Thanks for the reply. And as for you and Britney in the shower, watch that...
you'll get hairy knuckles.
:-)
#1 Damn! I was going to suggest the upcoming Panasonic TH50PX20U. It has integrated speakers, like you want. The current low price on this model is $6999. However, that's today. Since it isn't supposed to be released until mid-October, I'd suspect that may come down a bit. Currently on the AVS forum, the prediction is about $6500 by the end of October. Trust me, lots of fingers are crossed over there.#2 Sony makes some good televisions. I currently have a 4:3 53" XBR model in the living room. They're a bit behind in the plasma race, but not by far. Their prices are way behind. They're just too high.
#3 I have a very funny story about a recent Best Buy experience. Not right now, though.
#others I understand where you're coming from. Yes, that certainly simplifies things a bit and would make it easy for others. However, cranking things up a bit on the real system during some of the "War Planes" scenes on The History Channel isn't such a bad idea.
My son didn't do that with my system. He did it with the system I set up for my wife. Nobody touches my system -- the wife is scared of it and my son knows not to go in "daddy's room", as my wife calls it.
Trust me, the only knuckles involved with Britney in the shower would be hers -- touching her toes, if you get my drift. She is a limber gal, don't ya know...

I would suggest that you get a plasma that has a DVI-HDCP input, just to be safe. In another year, access to high definition programming may be limited without it. Besides, DVI-HDCP enables an all digital path to the plasma (from Set Top Boxes and DVD players that have this capability). The new Panasonic that I mentioned above has one of these inputs as a standard feature.Sampo has a new 50" model out. You may be able to see this model at your local Best Buy. I believe it can be found for under $5500 online and comes with a DVI-HDCP input. I've seen a 50" Pioneer model priced just under $6000 online. One thing you need to know about current Pioneers is that you need an additional card to get DVI-HDCP (made by a company called Aurora). Pioneer's (optional) card is just DVI. They will be releasing new models in a few months and those may have a DVI-HDCP input included. We'll see.
Here are a few online plasma vendors. The first 3 do business on AVS forum.
