Looking for a combo Receiver/DVD unit and 5.1 speaker packages under $1K. Anything decent in this price range?
Follow Ups:
I bought my Wife a Sony C900 5.1 DVD & SACD (and AM&FM); the unit rated at 50 wpc x 5 + 100 watt sub. It works, it looks sleek and clean.I think it sounds marginal...
My wife loves it... I tried to upgrade the speakers, but the Sony looks won over sound.
Oh well, if you want a really good all-in-one, don't get the Sony.
If your wife wants a DVD in the bedroom, get the Sony.
Their Aego system was favorably reviewed by TAS. All you would need is a good cheap progressive scan DVD player (Toshiba, Panasonic, JVC).
Here is some valuable advice. JR Music world is offering a refurbished combo receiver/dvd changer for $200. I bought one and it works fine. That leaves you enough to buy a decent used home theater setup. I know there is one on Ebay now, a JM Lab SIB/CUB going for around $750. You can also find a Velodyne DECO package on Videogon.com for around $700. Another choice is a package from RBH for around $650 that is on Ebay. In any case, you are getting a lot for your money.
Paradigm Cinema and Energy Take 5.2, both within your price range if you get the JR Music World combo for $200 ...
