I'm converting from two channel to 5 channel for both music and movies, but mostly for music. My question is what speakers to add to maintain the quality of music playback. My curent system is:Denon AVR 4802 receiver
Sony DVP 900S CD/SACD/DVD
Thiel 1.5 main speakers, about 8 years old.
Mirage Substrata 1500I need to add rears and center. With a budget of $1000, I can't get Thiel. Am I kidding myself in thinking that I can add another brand of speaker for the rears and center, and still maintain a coherent sound? If not, what brands could I listen to? And how does one go about auditioning under these circumstances, short of a full-on home demo?
Follow Ups:
If you were only doing movies, different speakers would be OK. The SCAD demo I heard was with very expensive surround equipment using the same brand of speakers and a Phillips SACD player. It did sound impressive, but I doubt that a Denon would be up to the task of music.
