I've been searching for a quality pre-amp/pro under $3200. I started at the lower end ($2K)looking @ Rotel, Acurus & Adcom offerings. After really listening and looking at features I decided to go a little "higher end" with a max limit of $3200.
At this point I'm weighing the pros/cons of ea the Theater Grand & AVC 2500 and have yet to come away w/a clear cut choice. (I do know Carver is soon to release a new version w/better base mgt) I am interested in anyones experiences/opinions of either or both.My priorities are 75% audio/25% HT.
I've just installed Vandy2Ce sigs.
New Amp to be determined (140 watt X 5 minimum).
Source components being upgraded/to be determined. (sorry not much help)
If music is 75% of your listening, I would take a good look at the Classe' SSP-25. It lists for around $3000 and sounds better than most much more expensive pre/pros on the market. In stereo mode, the Classe' puts the $7000 flagship Lexicon to shame. Build quality is second to none. There is a direct analog bypass for music if you have a high-end CD player too. Good luck!
Bill,If you priorites are towards music, then buy a good dedicated 2 channel preamp to handle music and something like the Sony TA-9000ES to handle the HT duties. You can pass the HT output through the 2 channel preamp if you need a system that handles both music and HT. I have found that HT preamp/processors just don't handle music as well as a good dedicated 2 channel preamp, IMHO.
Don’t even consider the Sunfire, its an ill conceived piece of gear. The remote is a re-badged Rotel touch pad, that if you inadvertently program something on the AMP page you’ll have to return the remote and have it re-programmed. It has few digital inputs, it also has no analog pass through, everything is converted. The seven axis surround (Proceed and Lexicon matrix side info for 7.1) Sunfire just plays left/right front and sides at same volume (non-adjustable) the only way you can turn off the sides is turn off the amp driving them, even two channel stereo!!!!!!! DUMB. Anybody wanting Sunfire 7.1 just put Y-connector on your main left and right channels and mount up some sides.
Not familiar with Parasound but it has to be better than Sunfire, also check out the Classe’ SSP-25, its a great sounding and looking piece of gear (remote also sucks but at least you can’t erase it).
