Looks like it's on its way in one form or another ...
Follow Ups:
I recently had the good fortune to see this new format before it was released. There were still some bugs in the software (it was still a beta version at the time), but the picture was awesome. It looked great projected by a Sharp DLP, and even better coming from a $50K Runco CRT. It looked almost as good as HDTV.The DVD I saw was called "Standing in the Shadows of Motown", I believe. Not only was the picture great, but the soundtrack was great too. It will be awesome if this format pans out, or at least accelerates the development of DVD technology to the level of HDTV. Once you see how good HDTV is, you just want everything to look that good!
the majority of programming looks that good. 10 years, perhaps?
Now if MS has it's way, we'll all suffer from virus infected HD-DVD's and the 'blue screen of death' lockup on those players as we experience today with MS operating systems. ;-)
I'm getting enough tiling and pixelation on my HDTV signals!!!
