Does anyone have experience/knowledge of this new 42" LCD model. It is attractively priced in the mid - $2K's. Is it a viable alternative to the Samsung DLP, which is about $3K for the same screen size, albeit 2x as deep? Thanks.

I know both these sets. Either is not bad for the money and if these were the only two choices then the Sony gets my money. Now that I think of it clearly the Sony for my taste had the superior picture.
I just bought 1, I auditioned side by side against a mits diamond vision and a samsung dlp, it had a fantastic picture, what really surprised me when I got it home was how outstanding the pq was with basic cable tv, I had been in the market for a new tv for some time, I was about to buy the samsung dlp, but the sony just had a better picture, plus , you don't have to worry about convergence and picture burn when using it for games, hope this helps, good luck
Thanks, Rick.Any disadvantages to LCD vs, DLP you are aware of, e.g., viewing angle, black level, bulb life, etc. I am an audio man, not too knowledgeable about video.
Thanks.
I have no idea how long the lamp lasts, but according to the manual, you can replace it yourself and seems very simple, as far as sceen burn goes, this is not a issue with the sony, off axis viewnig is much better then my old mits, the colors and picture quality are fantastic, my freind who has a high definition setup, commented that the picture on my sony was as good as his setup, and I am using basic cable, good luck
