Anybody experience this issue? Same problem with LCoS and DLP?
Follow Ups:
At least half of max, if not less, and you should be fine. But YMMV depending on the set, type of programming you view (bright sports vs. dark movies), etc.
In the manual for my set, Hitachi recommends limiting viewing of 4:3 material with the gray bars to 15% of your total. We exceed this pretty regularly-I can't stand the funhouse mirror effect of the stretch modes, so we just watch what we want to watch, in the correct aspect ratio. I keep the brightness and contrast at reasonable levels (calibrated with Digital Video Essentials)-no problems at all, and the set is nearly a year old. We watch a lot of 16X9 stuff, too-HD and DVD.Burn-in isn't a problem with DLP and LCD sets-this makes them very attractive for hard core gamers. We bought my son a seperate 20" TV for his PlayStation.
