Is that little worth the $1k price difference. Only you can decide. However, if you factor in the higher quality parts of the DVD5900, the better audio section and the DVI-HDCP video output (for your future display), it may be the better option. Once again, only you can decide.
I suggest you spend some time researching comments on both players in the DVD Hardware section at the AVS Forum:

Better video helps justify the price difference a little, better audio could turn the key. I'll probably move on the 5900 if it's better on Redbook than my CDP (Cambridge DiscMaster transport and IsoDAC, connected with an extra clock link. Sounds better than you might think).
One feature on the 5900 that interests me is the firewire output that I've been told will allow a m-c hi-rez DAC upgrade down the road.

Thanks, that's a good tip, as I'd previously discovered. Lots of info there, but I don't like the format of the board. Very poor layout for continuity, and a lot of video talk that's greek to me.
To get up to speed, spend some time reading at these two sites:www.videoessentials.com
www.hometheaterhifi.com
There's lots of information, explanations and definitions of the terms and topics that are frequently used in the more hip video forums.
:-)If you want a hard copy, I'd suggest a subscription to WidescreenReview magazine. Good stuff from Joe Kane, Greg Rogers and Perry Sun in every issue.
Another good forum, similar to AVS Forum, can be found at:
