A friend of mine had a Harmon Kardon DVD5, dvd player, that has this safety mode that it goes into every time the power goes out. He didn't want to fuss with it any more so he gave it to me. He did mention that after pushing a variety of unknown button combinations that it functioned quite fine until the next power outage. So has anybody else encountered this w/ H/K products, particularly the DVD5 model or, does anybody know the actual button combination to debug or turn the safety circuit off?
Thanks for input

I had a H/K DVD5 (I gave it to my brother) and it worked flawlessy for 3 years until I moved. After I plugged it back in the "master" power button worked, the unit went into standby mode. But when I went to power it up (the soft-touch power button underneath) nothing happened. The remote wouldn't turn it on either. After a couple of weeks I tried it again and it magically came on. A couple months later I replaced it and gave it to my brother to use. The same thing happened. It's been at least three weeks and it still won't turn on.If anybody knows what the secret is I'll be grateful as well.
Nick,
A freind of mine suggested that perhaps one of the IC chips is faulty, said it can be replaced for about $60, so I think I'm going to save up an get it fixed. Sucks being in College and BROKE=( Oh well.

The problem with my unit was a faulty capicitor. I had my uncle fix it and he ordered the schematics from H/K, which included a bulletin on this apparently common problem. The schematics were like $20, the cap was $1!
