I am looking at upgrading from my old JVC 27" TV to a Widescreen HDTV monitor. I am looking at either the Loewe 30" Aconda for $1400 (which I am told will soon be discontinued) the Loewe 30" Articos for $1800 with both prices including tax etc... I am comparing those TV's to some 34" mass market sets such at Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba and Phillips with prices ranging from $1200-$2400. The Loewe seems to have the better picture quality but is a bit smaller. Do you think that in the long run I would prefer the better quality or the larger size? Also the Loewe does not have a DVI input. Will that come back to haunt me later on? I am currently running a Marantz DV4000 (non-progressive or component vidio) but that will be upgraded in 2004 possibly to the Denon 2200 universal player. Will the Loewe’s superior processing make up for the lack of progressive scan on my player? Also what do you think of Loewe in general? They are said to be the best CRT televisions available. Thank you for your time and expertise in this matter.

KV34XBR910Their right. I bought one.
After reading your comment I read two reviews for the new Sony XBR (in "The Perfect Vision" and "Sound and Vision") and both reviews were terrific. I actually saw the unit with the Florida State - Florida football game in HD (Comcast Cable) at my local Tweeter store and was not overly impressed with the picture (must have been a connection somewhere) although I will say the new 30" XBR looked very good. It is a little more than I wanted to spend, but may be my best choice even over the Loewe. I wish I could compare them side by side. Thank you for your post.PS - If you don’t mind me asking, what did you have to pay for yours? Did you get a discount off of the $2500 price tag?
What kind of progressive DVD player are you using?
Are you receiving HD signals or just analog TV and DVD?
I paid $2,200.00 plus I bought the correct SONY stand and I think
I paid somewhere near $275 or $300 for the stand.
Well worth it as the TV is heavy and it looks stunning.
One extra thing I did to the stand though was to put 14 2" ball casters on the bottom around the edge so I could move the TV around.
