In Reply to: Digital Surround Processor w/o a pre-amp? posted by JLivermore on December 01, 2003 at 09:41:55:
I know that they do exist, but they are definitely a higher end beast and probably unnecessary for the vast majority of home theatre. Unless you're in a situation where you want individual power amps (3 2 channel amps for a 6 channel system, and then the sub) I can't see where it would make a lot of sense. There are some home theatre receivers that have preouts for everything. I know that my Denon has this and I'm sure that a lot of other brands and models have this as well. If you wanted to, you could just buy a used receiver with blown power amps and use that as a processor. Otherwise, just buying a full receiver is probably your best bet.
