Any thoughts?I currently own a Marantz SR7000, but would like to step up to a receiver with component video switching. I've never owned an Onkyo product, but the price/feature ratio seems quite high.
I am considering either the TX-SR701 or TX-SR601.
Also, is anyone familiar with the new Marantz line of receivers i.e SR6400, SR7400?
Thanks,

Hi Tony,To me, it depends on what you use the Receiver for.
My experience with these brands are that Marantz sounds different from Onkyo. Onkyo receivers CAN (but not have to) sound a bit harsh when playing music, while Marantz is most of the time a brand that does well with music too. If you're used to the Marantz, and LIKE IT for what it does, maybe you should stick to this brand. The onkyo is a fast machine though usually, which does well with movies. Note that I generalise here, since I haven't heard all models of these brands, but quite a few.Furthermore, I believe strongly in the fact that what you hear from your system is build up from everything in that system. So every peace in the system plays an important, unique and therefor unmissable part in your system. Choosing a different central system, like your Receiver might have a bigger impact than you've bargained for.
So I strongly suggest to compare them side by side if at all possible before sailing blindly on the component switch function.
I think you're thinking about the SR7400 as a follow up, right?
Well, in this case you would keek the sr7000 and get component swithching, I guess.Good luck with your making the best choice,
Erwin
I have a TX-DS797B that I am totally satisfied with. For HT it is extremely well thought out and with a learning remote fits the bill for the rest of the equipment. I would check out this RCVR and get it for a lower price.

I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-SR601 for my smaller family room secondary theater system. I must say I am impressed with the features and the sound - very clean for a receiver. I particularly like the 2nd room speaker output that I have running out to my pool deck.My only complaint is the cheap feel of the volume knob(lightweight plastic).
i think that you should stay wiht the one you have because i think it has the best perforance.
