Well actually its two questions. One, would running my rear speakers full range actually relieve my main sub of any extra work? I have bass management set to send all bass to my sub only. It seems to me it would help, but I just want other opinions. And two, would running a 10" JBL sub in the rear channels interfere with the bass coming from my 12" Paradigm sub in the front? For example, when watching a movie were all channels see the same bass information (ie, the whale scene in Finding Nemo) would the bass from the back sub interfere with the bass from my front sub? I know it would if I had the JBL in the front of my room feeding off the right output on my reciever, but I have no clue about it running off the back surrounds. I am also asking this under the speaker forum just in case.

If your sub accepts independent left/right inputs and feeds the high passed signals to the left/right speakers independently, I would call it a benefit. The affect would basically be the same as having full range rear channel speakers, instead of the limited range rear channel speakers you now have where frequencies below a certain crossover point are more than likely sent to the .1/sub channel.
... the flow of bass to various speakers depends upon -1. Whether you are dealing with pro logic, AC3 (DD 5.1) or whatever
2. How your processor handles the bass.
If it is AC3 then having subs at the back would be useless as heavy bass is directed to your 5.1 sub. If it is in another format then the improvement would be minimal unless the processor has "small" & "large" settings for your rears. Even so, if you want better bass, IMO you are better off with another sub. We use two subs here and it gives much better coupling to the room. I did try subs at the rear once and the effect was wierd.
Hope this helps
In answer to your questions, its all 6+ channel formats. And as far as my processor is concerned, I do have different sizes of speakers to choose from for all channels. All my speakers are set to small so all bass goes to my single sub. I was thinking about setting my rears to large and use my extra sub (its a JBL 10") in my rear channels since its not doing anything but sitting in my basement and I am hoping that it will relieve my main sub a little during extremely intense moments. Also I am hoping to get around the need to buy another $500+ sub just becuase one single movie in my collection stress my sub (Finding Nemo). No other movie has ever stressed it like Finding Nemo has. And no I don't want to turn my sub down as its as perfectly set into my system as I can get and I only watch movies at reference level... ;)
