In Reply to: Thoughts on Onkyo (not integra) vs. Marantz receivers posted by Tony on December 16, 2003 at 12:00:03:
Hi Tony,To me, it depends on what you use the Receiver for.
My experience with these brands are that Marantz sounds different from Onkyo. Onkyo receivers CAN (but not have to) sound a bit harsh when playing music, while Marantz is most of the time a brand that does well with music too. If you're used to the Marantz, and LIKE IT for what it does, maybe you should stick to this brand. The onkyo is a fast machine though usually, which does well with movies. Note that I generalise here, since I haven't heard all models of these brands, but quite a few.Furthermore, I believe strongly in the fact that what you hear from your system is build up from everything in that system. So every peace in the system plays an important, unique and therefor unmissable part in your system. Choosing a different central system, like your Receiver might have a bigger impact than you've bargained for.
So I strongly suggest to compare them side by side if at all possible before sailing blindly on the component switch function.
I think you're thinking about the SR7400 as a follow up, right?
Well, in this case you would keek the sr7000 and get component swithching, I guess.Good luck with your making the best choice,
Erwin
