I find it strange that it plays back in 6.1 but only has 5.1 inputs (who knows they might actually record tracks in 6.1 in the future). I like the fact that it has 5.1 pre-outs to be used as a pre-amp thus making the transition to separates much easier. I predict that it will have an awful remote (other than Marantz, I have yet seen one that people really like), sound pretty good, a neat gimick (rear CC), and some will judge it against AVRs that are much higher. I been looking for a Pre-amp under a $1000 and thanks to your post I think I just might have found it.
Actually, Dolby Surround EX utilizes a 6.1 format (standard 5.1 DD plus a decorrelated rear center).
According to the site they mentioned that sound engineers/mixers can mix into the rear tracks to utilize a rear center for a better sound flow (sort of like a center channel in DPL). I was sort of shocked that they have the standard 5.1 pre-outs but not one for their rear center channel.
