Have moved, and am back to cable after a couple of years with DirectTV using the Sony DirecTV/TiVo box. Good thing is that I get High Def on cable, but am really missing the TiVo.So am thinking about getting a stand alone TiVo box. But wondering how it works with a cable box. Can TiVo control select channels off the cable box, or do I have to set the channel I wish to record (in which case, it's not much better than a vcr)?
Follow Ups:
ir cable (emulating a remote control) or a serial cable (if the cable box can be controlled that way). You simply tell it which model you have and it knows the control codes. You only have to tell it what you want, TiVo changes the channel and records what you asked for.
So it turns the cable box on/off, and changes the channels.
Cool. Thanks for the info.
