Quad,
not to worry. You're not going to destroy anything.
The amp section simply isn't being used as there is
no load to drive and you're not sending the amps any signal.
AFAIK, there is no way to "turn off" the amps.

Thanks for the advice komakino. That was my thinking as well, but after about 15 minutes, the whole thing just shuts down, so I assumed that it was some sort of protection circuit. I will have to try it again. I love the unit, much better sounding than my old Pioneer, now if I could only get it to stay working! LOL Thanks again! Cheers, Mike.
Try the Marantz site, they have the manuals in PDF form.
Thanks for the link, but this thing is going back. It has more issues than my ex-wife! It has a nasty habit of shutting itself down for no reason, and when I play a digital source (using the digital inputs), it gives off a loud pop in the silent passages between songs ... and these are just the things that I KNOW it is doing wrong. I have hooked up my Pioneer Elite VSX-24TX again, and packed up the Marantz to return it. What a disappointment. It looks like it could have been a nice unit, with a lot of nice features. Oh well, the search continues. Thanks for all the good advice. Mike.
