Time to retire to ol' Trinitron, so I sez to myself, lets see what's new out there. I now feel like Curly looking into the big pipe when Moe turned the water on. HDTV, LCD, DPTV, RPTV, 4:3, 16:9, S-video, interlacing, etc. etc., etc. I'm overwhelmed...info overload. Used to be that the hardest thing about picking a TV was finding a cabinet stain that matched the decor. Why does this have to be such hard work? If this much work and study was involved in pickin' a wife, I seriously consider celibacy.

I am going through the same thing, but I'm a month or so ahead of you. Like Joe says, there are some great forums out there that have helped immensely. Luckily for me it wasn't a decision that I had to make over a weekend, I am building a home theater in my basement so I'm still a couple of months out & am still learning. Hopefully you don't have to rush into things....
Just as ignorant about audio and video technology as they are. Here are two options for you:
#1 Try AVS Forum (www.avsforum.com), HomeTheater Forum (www.hometheaterforum.com) and Secrets (www.hometheaterhifi.com) for an education in all things video. Doing your homework will make you a happy person after you make your purchase.#2 Go to one of the above stores, tell them you have X amount of dollars and let them sell you something. This will make them a happy retailer after you make your purchase. If you're not willing to do some homework, why should they give a crap about you?
I AM doing the homework...thats the complaint.
