The Yamaha has a sound that is the same for the RXV-800, 1000, 1400, and 2400.I had the RXV-1000 and uped it to the RXV-2400 and was impressed buy the YPAO Pressense channels etc...
I bought the onkyo 501 over christmas (for a friend ) and I asked him if we could compare it.The Onkyo had a clean and open sound.. highs where clear mids felt open and airy....bass was just right. I would recommend you go with the onkyo..
But try to find a store that has both and listen to them with your favorite song.
As much as you have all those options for sound You will most likly use 3 or 4 of them Prologic II being one of them.I would also note I have the JBL studio series speakers S312,S38, center and PB12 (Looking to move to klipsch)
BTW I returned my RXV-2400 and Will be picking up the Onkyo 801 on tuesday.
