I just purchased a new Sony 34" XBR910 and the picture almost looks like a PC monitor with an inferior video card. It's not as noticeable from 12 or more feet away but is still not right. Don't get me wrong, the picture isn't bad, but something isn't right. By the way, I have directv (standard, not HDTV)using an S-Video input and my DVD player is using compoonent cables. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for all of your replies. It seems to me that the problem is with Directv and the fact that I don't have HD yet.
Why don't you consider having it professionally calibrated by an ISF technician?
POlution in AC is rife in many homes. Could be the cause. DVD should look superb on a 34" XBR, unless you are using inexpensive component cables - and that would only be a problem in select few cases.
Do you do any service menu adjustments to those 34XBR910's?
You might want to start by dropping the 'sharpness' all the way down as sharpness in TVs is another word for distortion. As emphasised by the Video Essentials DVD.
This occurs when you use your DVD player as well? Have you tried unplugging everything (including the cable hook-up) but the TV and DVD player (have them both on the same circuit) to see if there's a grounding problem? Have you adjusted the settings at all? Factory settings usually are not the greatest.
you might need a signal booster or something. It can't be your tv.
