If so I have one, and I paid no where near $700 a year ago. I got it at J&R for $440 including tax. I replaced an Acurus DIA100 I was using to power 2 NHT 2.5s It in no way matched that amplifier, but it does a fine job for movies. I have a Levinson on my audio system, so it's hard to go from music to movies at home, but it does the trick. Guests are just awed anyway, but I do find it fatiguing.I too am considering the Outlaw receiver to replace my yamaha 990 receiver I'm using as 2 additional amps channels & my preamp. For $599 you can't beat it, if I could only sell my old projector to finance it! (anyone interested in a slightly beatup Zenith Pro851X for a STEAL?) I have dealt with the President of Outlaw on a number of occasions & he really is quite a gentleman, and a great businessman. I may wait for the Outlaw Preamp he spoke about when I questioned him about the receiver.
Yep, sure was refering to the Harmon as the local dealers here in Kansas does a minimal amount of mark-down. I saw the same deal at JandR for $299 + shipping. I have been doing mostly internet shopping (and recently buying) as it seems I could get things for 50% or less on the net. The only thing that I'm reluctant about buying are AVRs just based on horror stories reported at various sites if a problem arises, grey market, or refurbs (I fear more the software problems than the hardware). I would consider Outlaw since you deal directly to product headquaters instead of the middle-man and have yet read a bad review about their customer service. Since you stated that you talked about their pre-pro with their president what kind of info did you gather (does it have various cross-over settings if so what are they).
I got no real information about details, but I would assume it has the same base capabilities of the receiver.
