Narrowed down my amp choice to the Anthem PVA 7, but short of money to go all out and get the companion anthem avm 20 processor(@$3k). Is an alternative around $1k. The natural choice appears to be outlaw, but it doesn't support THX?
Follow Ups:
outlaw audio
pre 950
amp 7100 7 channel 100w
or amp 770 7 channel 200w
outlaw audio.com
these are great set ups for better pricing then anthem.
outlaw shares same chassis as sherbourn audio
Arriving in stores this week is the new Sherwood-Newcastle P-965 pre/pro. Although not THX certified or equiped, it has an amazing feature set for a list price of $1500.00 See it at www.sherwoodusa.com. The prior model from Sherwood was well regarded by both audio-journalists and owners. I has some of the features of the Anthem, like bass management (digital) for the multi-channel input. Best of all, it has DPLIIx, which not even the Anthem has yet. It comes with a remote that is a Sherwood-branded MX-500, too. I can't say what it sounds like yet, but it's on my short list. You should be able to get something off of list price.
TRY OUTLAW AUDIO OR ATLANTIC TECHNOLOGY SWAME ITEMS. MANUFACTURED FROM SAME FACTORY, DIFFERENCES ARE MINUTE. OUTLAW IS $800.
I've got my eye on this unit, been looking at this for awhile. Can't wait to see it, should be soon....
According to Sherwood America's marketing chief, the P-965 ships to dealers this week. Oh, did I mention the P-965 has an upsampler for digital inputs? It upsamples the front L/R channels of any digital input, even in DD or DTS modes. If well implemented, this could be awesome.
There are no $1000 processors that sound like the Anthem. The B&K Ref 50 lists for $2K and is very good, but if you want Anthem sound you have to pay for it. A recurring issue in high end is people compromising on what they want, then buying it anyway within six months. I suggest you buy a used cheap processor now and save for the Anthem. You will not be disappointed.
try outlaw audioprecessor and amp combo for 1600.00
pre is 700.00
amp is 900.00actually sold my anthem and purchased outlaw after a b comparisons.
I am very pleased with the Fosgate FAP-T1. It is very similar to the Outlaw with the addition of a video monitor on the front panel. Sound quality is excellent. I was also considering the B&K but reviews were mixed. I got he Fosgate new for $1500.
