There are two earlier Panasonic models, XP-30 and XP-50, which are supposed to be the pinnacle of current DVD reproduction due to a superior chip which was "dumbed down" in later models. These can be found used. The onlt difference is that the XP-50 also plays DVD-A
discs as well, something you said you weren't interested in. Both are progressive scan players.
Follow Ups:
Any of the Pannys mentioned, including the RP-82 & 91 using the Immersive SDI output into a Lumagen Pro SDI input will easily beat the Camelot--as good as it is.(An Italian outfit has fitted an SDI output to the new Denon high-end player with outstanding results, according to them. Unfortuntely, Immersive will not mod the Denons.)
I had the Camelot for a number of years and now have both the SDI modded RP-82 and 91.
These setups will astound you with their quality output, both on an absolute and cost/performance basis.
