I am thinking of getting one of the above, but I do not understanding why the resolution stated is 1024 x 1024 when it is a 16:9 panel? Any difference in picture quality when compared to a panel that has got the resolution fitting a 16:9 panel?

It's actually an interlaced display, as opposed to plasma's usual progressive scan. However, it does give a better picture than standard interlaced, though not as good as most progressive plasmas. The technology is from the partnership of Fujitsu and Hitachi. Other companies have used their glass in this form and just added their own electronics.
If you'd like to know more, check out the link below to AVS Forum. Type alis in the Search function and specify the search to be made in the Plasma and Flat Panel LCD Displays section.
The spec I've most often seen for 16x9 plasams is 1280 X 720 (or occasionally, 1365 X 768).
It's right. The two Sonys I am looking at are different; one is 1024x1024 and the other is 124x768. I've seen both specs in other lines as well. FWIW.
Hi, I am correct. The one I am looking at is the Philips 42FD9934. I have also seen other brands with such resolution. Here is the link for the Philips leaflet.
