I heard on another site that even if your mains only go down to about 45Hz, you could get good performance from them by setting them large because movies (DVD's) are mixed with most of the low bass in the LFE channel. That is, the mains and center, even if set on large, will not get much energy below 45/50Hz. Is this true, or will I be missing the bass below 45Hz in those channels? It would seem like a waste to run them small. I can't adjust the crossover setting on my receiver; it's set at the standard 80Hz.If I have small towers and a relatively large center channel that can play down to around 40Hz and 50Hz, respectively, would I be okay to run them "large"? The system described will only be used for movies, so implications for music performance are not a concern.
Thanks,
Richard H
Try it and see how you like it. Just don't crank it way up the first time. Experiment and have fun :-)
