Does anyone have any suggestions on an "optimum" wall color for a dedicated home theater? I am trying to avoid really dark colors and would prefer not to paint the front wall black around the screen. Thanks for your help.

40%-50% gray works well. I actually don't think it's ugly at all. With white ceiling and floor trim, I find it's a rather elegant look. All subjective, of course.
Although not esthetically pleasing and fraught with WAF problems, a dark gray is felt by many to be optimum color. There is some discussion of this on the Cinemaquest website (they make background lighting for home theaters).
