  you're into how the product looks -- not how it performs. The majority of Sony's plasmas use glass sourced from NEC. They just add on their own electronics and exterior design. Basically, you're paying extra for fluff.

  NEC has been making their own plasmas for many years and are very highly rated in the industry in several areas. The electronics in their plasmas (12-bit processing, more picture adjustments, tweakability, etc) are superior to Sony and the glass that they use is one generation beyond what they OEM to Sony.
