Hi,I am in the market for a $350-$450 27" flat screen TV, and of course I want to get the best bang for my buck. I have been particularly impressed with the Toshiba 27AF44 and the Sony Trinitron Wega KV-27FS100, and I am having a difficult time choosing between them. I would like to hear any impressions or recommendation between these two models or perhaps some others.
Thanks,

To me SONY still has the best picture quality out there. I have had zero problems with my SONY video equipment for many years.
Firstly like the other poste who had one knows Sony has atrocious build quality on these sets. Consumer Reports for what they're worth to you rates the Toshiba the best and OSny was I believe around 9th. The SOny has less features worse construction and costs more. The picture quality is close...some might prefer the Sony side by side, but frankly you don't watch tvs side by side - and perhaps the stores adjust one to look worse to sell you the more profitable one - actually take out the word perhaps.
A dealer who sells both Toshiba and SOny told me that Sony in their bigger expensive set deliberately put out tubes which they new would fall apart but needed to rush the units to market to beat the competition...fat lot that does people who bought them and then wait forever to get em fixed. Unfortunately I didn't ask him which sets.
I may have to buy a set myself and the Toshiba is at the top of my list - My VCR is running very well now over a decade and never once any kind of problem. I have had JVC's that have dies within 90 days.
I also understand that Toshiba makes one of the best Laptops for repairs as well. Let's face it this kind of stuff in this day and age is disposable...finding somehting that might last is a huge plus...no gaurantees of course but I figure try and play the odds as best you can.
Got the 27AF41 and later the 36AF61, both toshiba units. To me, after adjusting the pictures I preferred the Toshiba AF series. I have one, my mom has one, a friend of mine has one, and my brother might get one if he ever manages to save any money.See these links

I purchased a Toshiba 27AF44 on Tuesday and I'm very happy with it. Check the Best Buy web site, where it was on sale for $332. The picture is excellent and the sound is good. The remote seems a little finicky though.
My 27" Sony flat screen is giving up its ghost after only 4 years and I am not happy. My next (soon) purchase will be the Toshiba. On a Usenet group about a year ago I saw lots of criticism of Sony TV products. Now I know why. . . .
