My parents just bought a 36" Sony TV and although they have no interest in 'home theater', they do own a DVD/VCR combo. I'm thinking about setting them up with an entry A/V surround receiver or an 'all in one' home theater system. I'm leaning toward the Sony brand only because I want to keep the remotes to a minimum since my folks are somewhat technically challenged when it comes to modern gadgets. Once they experience even an entry home theater, I think they will be pleased and might watch more DVD movies. Any recommendations would be appreciated, Sony or otherwise. Thanks!

I'm considering the entry Denon 1604 or giving them my old (but good) Onkyo 2-ch receiver from 1995. Thanks also for the speaker suggestions.
Can you find a decent integrated amp (with remote) and couple of sheilded speakers (Paradigms, Polks, etc) to set it up in stereo? Less mess, fewer wires, fewer choices, better sound. My dad is the same way as your parents, so you really need to keep it VERY simple.
Hi,You did not specify how much you would like to spend but i should say that the denon 2803 would be a good choice for you since it is able to amplify a 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 setup and has a ton of features plus a universal remote with learnig capacity. besides the features is has a very good sound quality and as you go up the line ( 3805, 4803 and 5803) it only gets better. pay the site a visit and read about it. i have one for my hometheater setup and am fully satisfied.
Depends on what you (They) want to spend...I'm sure that for what they probably want out of the system you could use that Sony System that comes with speakers, the 725 DVD Player, and a receiver. BJs Wholesale Club has it for something like $400.
If you want to upgrade them in sound quality get a Sony Receiver and add some enty level Paradigm speakers (like the micro).
Keeping them in the same brand is a great idea.
