Hi,To answer your power question, it depends on two factors: Room size and speaker sensitivity. if you have a very large room the power could be an issue. but if you have sesitive pair of speakers that would correct the problem.
If you have a medium room with normal sesitivity speakers, the power is plenty and will play louder than you are able to stand and without distortion.Now, if you want a stereo qality setup, buy an integrated amplifier, connect the right and left preouts of the receiver to the amplifier for hometheater use( remeber to equalize the volume setting of each speaker on the receiver) and connect the cd player or dvd player to the other input on the amplifier for music puposes. the sound for hometheater and specially for stereo music will be much more open, transparent and just better overall.
