Hello,I got into HT back ooh 12 or os years ago and have forgot a few things plus times have moved on.
My pet issue I have at present is wanting to use my soon to purchase mullti-channel amp (Plinius Odeon) to drive my speakers (M & K) without using a receiver's in-built amplification. Can I purchase a receiver that is a pure decoder of all encoded signals (DTS, THX, DS, etc) have the reciever send this information to my pre-amp which then sends it to the power amp? Or do I have to go from Receiver to Power Amp? And is there such a receiver out there?
Bear in mind I am going to hook the DVDP up to a Panasonic AU500 projector via DVI so want to ensure system is not compromised. Oh and its 7.1 set-up as well.
Follow Ups:
I am assuming you want to use the existing pre-amp because of its phono input and/or tone controls. I suggest purchasing a "pre-amp/processor", current models of which have all the codecs from Dolby and DTS plus more than likely some proprietary ones. Then connect the existing pre-amp into an input on the new pre/pro and set the old pre-amp to a constant level. The new unit then becomes the control for the entire system.
I understand your thinking and rationale behind this. The "old" pre-amp is better than any pre/porcessor and hence I am strongly against giving up the Plinius M8 pre-amp.My guess is I will go separate components for Audio listening and HT.
