I am no videophile but know a good picture when I see it. Had Direct through Peagus and was about to get a HD TV, Peagus offered nothing??DN set up two rooms and gave us the HD 811 (No Charge or commitment)
HD is good to excellent, SD sucks (Dark and at times looks somewhat out of focus) DN says they are aware of the dark pic and stated that it is a software issue that will soon be fixed???????
I have a Samsung HLN5065W DLP and am using a very good DVI cable.
Follow Ups:
I had friends swear Satellite was sooooo much better than Cable so I had to try it out. Disappointing. Both cable and Dish SD feeds seem equally horrible on my 110" screen. Charter HD via component seems to be a bit better defined than even the DVI feed from the dish HD 811 box. At least I've now got a 2-tuner receiver in two more rooms and an HD receiver with OTA tuner in the "Prime time" room (when it's working, unlike now...). Need to hook up to the antenna to see how well OTA HD works.
DISH SD broadcast varies from "OK" to downright terrible depending on the channel. I was physically unable to watch their "locals" channels due to extreme haziness and ended up putting up a Channel Master HD antenna for that reason. OTA broadcasts look awesome via 811, especially HD. Fortunately, I've been noticing more and more primetime local programming to be more and more HD as time goes by.Dish's HBO, and few others look "OK" in SD, but look like child's play compared to HBO HD, Showtime HD.
I basically try to avoid watching these dish SD channels as much as possible and keep sending Charlie e-mails to ease off on the digital compresssion (I'd rather see fewer channels of higher quality).
