Anybody know what's up with TNT-HD? I read that it is supposed to start with the Lakers-Timberwolves series, but I can't seem to find any more details...

I have Dish network and a 811 box, just checked program menu and they added TNTHD. Round ball is on tonite..........
...at present. More stretched-out pictures of 4x3 images in wide screen. I've had HDTV for over a year and there is still precious little true HD programming available. But maybe other viewers don't mind fat faces, short bodies, and oval shaped basketballs.
I wouldn't call it a scam but I agree that there's not enough true HDTV 16:9 content available today. But on a 16:9 screen, true 16:9 HDTV broadcasts are incredible, better than the best DVD you own. Live NFL football in HDTV and 16:9 hi-def content from PBS are just a coupe examples of things to come.I'm getting about 1/2 dozen HDTV stations FREE over-the-air including the NFL games. Doesn't cost me anything except for the initial cost of the tuner and I know it's just a matter of time..... Like color tv, not all the stations were setup for it initially.
Are you sure the displays you've seen are correctly set up? I agree that many in the discount stores are not but most current sets have a choice of four or more aspect ratios for non Hi Def pictures.True High Definition comes in only one flavor, 16 x 9, and fills the screen correctly.
I agree that there is not much Hi Def at present, unless you pay big bucks to the cable company for the premium channels.
Is that upconverted stuff that ESPN-HD passes off as HD. True Hi-Def (HOPEFULLY the rest of the Stanley Cup playoffs!) looks awesome.I agree there still isn't much programming, sometimes finding myself watching some boring PBS stuff, just cause it's in HD.
Of course if you ask the Voomers about that, they may disagree. I have cable HD, have till the end of May to decide whether I want to go with Voom or not (the free install deal ends then.)
you're right, there isn't that much true HDTV yet. I just got it a month or so ago. I mostly watch sports and I think you must agree that sports in HDTV is pretty great... I'm waiting for the football season, I think Monday night and maybe Sunday night games are HD...
Hey, that's good news, at least its out there somewhere... I have DirecTV, though, and an antenna for OTA, so I guess I'll have to do some channel searching tonight. What's an 811 box, btw?
The new TNT-HD channel is for DISH network. 811 is DISH's HDTV receiver, which I have also. It would be very nice to watch NBA post-season in HD indeed :) The local channels have not been broadcasting these post-season games, though I'm sure they will for the Championship finals..
?
Watched the Lakers/T'Wolves game 1 in HD last nigh!!!! When you can count individual eyebrow hairs on players, you know you've got it good. Beautiful picture, but unfortunately it doesn't look like it will be a close, exciting series :)Did I mention I watched the last Superbowl in HD FREE via OTA antenna? As well as Academy awards, CSI, Friends, Wil and Grace, Law and Order, etc, etc, etc. HD is Here, friends.
