Is there a receiver for Dish with digital output of multi-channel audio? Having a hell of a time finding one with anything other than 2 channel analog out? Ordered one from Dish that they claimed to have digital surround out but it's analog stereo & is going back.Suggestions on integrating Dish receiver into 5.1 HT system?
Follow Ups:
I've suspicions about the quality of the HD output though (component and DVI).
811's HD outputs (DVI and component, DVI being a bit better) are very fine, in fact as good as video comes these days. Watching true HD material via DVI from 811 on my 60" RPLCD can take your breath away.811's problems are buggy software and poor video quality when viewing DISH's own VERY compressed SD digital signals. OTA SD signals are very good via 811, though.
...for those of us w/o HDTV. I too would like a DISH receiver that outputs 5.1 DD to enjoy with my standard 32" set.
of DISH receivers with digital audio out. Not the 301, 322 receivers, but the following all have digital audio out:DVR522, DVR510, DVR508, DISH 721, 811 (HD), 921 (HD)
But to be frank, if DISH did not have HD package and let me watch free OTA HD channels via the 811 receiver, I would NOT subscribe them for the non-HD material AT ALL. HIGHLY compressed, low quality digital SD signal.
If that was the case, and if my city allowed me, I would most definitely have put up a BUD(Big Ugly Dish) in my backyard.
HD seemed a bit sharper with cable even though it was only a component cable feed. I made a perhaps unfortunate mistake committing to Dishnetwork for the next few months, but I wil be tempted to go back to cable soon. Except now I have a dual tuner with independent remotes for 2 TVs (independent of the HD receiver.I now have a new respect for digital cable, or at least with the cable hd receiver. Story might be different if Dishnetwork comes up with a better HD receiver. I'm feeding a 110" screen so I think I'm asking a lot out of the source. Need to get a much better DVD source.
I'll agree I'm disappointed with dish SD broadcast. Also, I got the the OTA antenna recently and the HD feed ain't half bad, too bad I've never been able to get the local PBS feed.
I have 2 Dish Network PVR reciever boxes(personal video recorder) one is capable of 38 hr's and the other of 100 and they both have a toslink (optical out) for multichannel, and while the digital out is theoretically better both of these units provide excellent Dolby Digital in my HT.
