Hi all,I am experimenting with video capturing and editing to amuse myself. I am totally new to this and hope the more experienced forumers can advise me.
My equipment is:
CPU: Pentium 2.4Ghz with Hyperthread capability
Video: Pinnacle Edition Version 5.1 with breakout box and ATI card
Audio: OnboardDescription of problem:
1) When using Pinnacle Edition 5 to digitize Analogue VHS video, cannot capture video and sound beyond a few minutes.
connection:
VCR player (video and audio out) -> Pinnacle breakout box -> PC2) When using Nerovision 2 to digitize Analogue VHS video with Mpeg-2 compression, I need to connect the VCR audio outputs to the PC soundcard
VCR player (video out) -> Pinnacle breakout box -> PC
VCR player (audio out) -> PC on board sound card3) Captured MPEG-2 video from Nerovision is quite poor even in High quality setting. Further, the audio and video on the burned CD is out of sync. If I capture without compression, the picture quality is better, but there are dropped frames.
My question is, would a dedicated ADC with firewire solve the above problems?
Thanks and regards

You were using Pinnacle Edition 5.1 not Pinnacle studio - sorry. Still the current version is Pinnacle Liquid Edition 5.5.

The short answer is yes. Before I talk about that, a little more information on your PC setup might be helpful. For example: how much memory do you have? How many hard drives are you using 1 or 2? Is there any other programs running during capture? All may play a part in some way with the troubles you're experiencing. Two suggestions: 1)upgrade your version of Pinnacle. I believe Pinnacle Studio 9 is the current version. While many have a lot of problems with Pinnacle others work with it quite nicely. If you're a little tight on change and can't do the upgrade then there are some real good products available for free or very nominal fees. For capturing you might give VirtualDub . You can't beat the price, free. For encoding try TMPGEnc . 2) Seriously look into purchasing Canopus ADVC-100 . this is hands down the best analog/DV conversion device going. It features an audio sync lock. No more "kung-fu" type videos where the mouths are moving and words soon follow. this product is a little on the expensive side about $260 at NewEgg.com but if you've got a lot of videos to convert it's well worth the money. Good luck.
Hi thanks for your attention.A bit more info about my h/w setup:
Memory: 512 MB
Drives: 40GB C drive for the application program
120GB D drive for the video captureCD burner: TDK high-speed external DVD burner DVDRW800N
If you've got more questions. Definately someone over there can definately help.
Hi,I got the Canopus ADVC100 and put it to use right away.
So far so good when I use the Nerovision Express 2 to capture video into Mpeg2.
However with Pinnacle Edition 5.1, the capture terminates by itself when the file (avi format) hits 3.99GB. Maybe this problem is inherent in Edition but I'm not sure. I have written to Pinnacle support but have yet to receive a reply :(..
