I'm new to this and would like to seek some expert knowledge :Today's digital TV can support high resolution e.g 1280x768 and even ready for HDTV eg 1080i. However, DVD player only generates 480i/p. Does it mean that it cannot fully utilize the better resolution ?
Traditional way is to get better cable, player with good DAC and 3:2 pull down circuitry, video enhancement circuitry, etc. With digital TV is there better (quality and cost) way ?
Reading through some discussion, but I'm still confused :
- can DVI be used to transmit progressive signal ?
- some DVDP can upconvert signal to 720p or higher, is this helpful?
- if digital connection is used, do we still need player with powerful DAC and/or video enhance circuitry (eg NSV, DCD ...)
- is it better to get an external scaler to match the h/v resolution of the TV ?
Follow Ups:
even though the DVD is a native 480 product. Since all the processing is in the digital domain and they all have DVI out you might investigate. The cheapest are not expensive at all though the Bravo has a bit of a rep for problems.LG (and some others) make a DVD player combined with an HDTV off-air tuner that has gotten some excellent consumer reviews. And the picture looks great in the store.
One less connection to make. Should work well with a 1/4 HD or 1280x720p projector.
