I felt the CRTs did blacks better, which to me showed more dimensions. Biggest problem with rear projections CRTs (like my Pioneer) is the burn-in issue. If you watch a lot of 4:3 material, and don't care for the stretch modes, go for the other digital technologies. Doesn't matter to the tube sets like the Sony.
