Denon 3805.... One of the best new ones and can be ahd for about 1100 bucks (less than 1K if you buy B-Stock).It decodes HDCD, HDAD, Has great MC Analog inputs and offers supperb sound. It has dual Burr-Browns per channel. I really can't fault this receiver in any way.. If you pair it up with a high-end 2900 or 5900 universal players, you can use their Dlink connector whcih is trully awesome and will shortly also transmit SACD. It will handle 192/24 DVD-A signals.
I think in the 1K range, nothing can touch it right now.
Go take a listen to it.
Follow Ups:
How does it compare to the 3803? It is currently available for around $500 and has the same Dacs in the front channels as the 3805.I think it is either that or the Outlaw but I am still poking around. I need to pull the trigger in a couple of weeks.
i never heard the 3803, so can't compare the performance. I do know that the 3805 has the Dlink connector allowing you to connect the 5900 directly to it using only 1 cable to output CD, HDCD, DVD, DVD-A, and shortly SACD!.Been very happy with the 3805 so far.... Far and away better than the Sony ES receivers i have owned (and now sold!) in the past.
