Hello,My repair person just told me I should try a high quality splitter for my cable TV conection to my VCR Etc.
Any recomendations to what brand?
he mentioned channel Master and Channel Plus.
Are these any better than the standard issue ones the cable company supplies? The Mondial splitters are so expensive and not sure if they are worth it.
Thank you,
Follow Ups:
I've using this one for quite a while. I obtained it originally because I needed a really effective ground loop interrupt but I've kept it because it works so well.
I recently installed a video distribution setup in my house using Channel Vision brand modulator, amplifier, splitters, low pass filters, etc. along with Belden 1694a coaxial. Very happy with the results.
Hello,These are bothe excellent ideas.
I did not think of the Monster Splitter before. The Channel Vision is probably the most agressive splitter conection.
I am now going to look at these products.
Would this be overkill for my situation? From cable to splitter to VCR and TV.
That is all I need from the splitter.Thank you,
Unless you have some unusual circumstance, a $10 Radio Shack splitter will do the job just fine. Sometimes we over analyze when all we need is a commonly available cheap device from Target or Radio Shack. My 2-cents worth.....
I too frequent my local Radio Shack stores when "good is good enough” Their splitters probably are, as many of their products. But I replaced older Archer/RS rf amps with the Channel Vision unit, and got better results. CV claims a lower S/N radio on their amps. I've read Channel Plus is also a quality brand. And forget about low pass filters or digital modulators to combine video signal at Radio Shack, they don't have a clue. Channel Vision techs, on the other hand, will help you set up an entire video distrubution system, right over the phone. That’s my biggest problem with RS. Many times I have taken an item off their web site, and inquired at the local B&M store, using their terminology, and have received blank stares from the sales people. Don't even ask them about High Def...They will tell you nothing is worth watching or available, or try to sell you the wrong antenna.
At least that's been the experience I've had in my area...YMMV.
Hello,I could not agree with you more about "Rat Shack".
Channel Vision has outstanding customer support.
I called one of their Tech. people and he spoke to me for quite some time regarding my situation. He was is no hury to get me off the phone as some other's are from different companies.
I am going to try thier splitter and amplifier combination.
Even he said I could get them seperately from someone else.
But I really would like to support CV.
I am sure the Mondial is an excellent piece, but at one fifty I am really not sure if it is worth it for me in my situation.
There may be a local electronics supply house or contractor that specializes in "structured wiring" that carries CV in stock.
I agree about RS personnel being clueless but in this case it doesn't take a rocket scientist to make a purchasing decision on a $10 splitter so there's no need for competent help.
Agreed. Until this one is proven in practice to be inadequate. I had assumed this was tried.
All you may need is a simple passive splitter. #HS-2Here's some more info:
Ha,I just got off the phone with Channel Vision.
They said I need the HS-2 splitter and a 10 Db amplifier.
This sounds very familar.
Exactly the splitter that was just recomended to me on this form.
This is what iwill try first.
Cable TV should give suffice gain and poor power up booster probably contaminate pic quality with unneccessary video noise.
There must be other reason in addition to your desciption for that prescribed costly upgrade and I hate to speculate on your tech man any hidden agenda.
Hello,After some more research today,
I feel that you may be completely correct.
Just got off the phone with a Channel Vision Rep. and he said that I do not need their amplifier splitter.
Tends to totally agree with you!Thank you!!!!
Monster Cable makes an excellent splitter.
