  Cable TV should give suffice gain and poor power up booster probably contaminate pic quality with unneccessary video noise.
  There must be other reason in addition to your desciption for that prescribed costly upgrade and I hate to speculate on your tech man any hidden agenda.

    After some more research today,
    I feel that you may be completely correct.
    Just got off the phone with a Channel Vision Rep. and he said that I do not need their amplifier splitter.
    Tends to totally agree with you!
